La Mola, the excursion you can’t miss if you live in Sabadell
As we all know by now, this year 2020 is being very special and different from what we knew so far. If we usually take advantage of the summer holidays to go away from home, this year most of the population has preferred to enjoy the holidays at home.
We often think that we have to go out of our way to be able to disconnect from our routine, but in the end, we are very lucky to live in a country where each area has its own charm.
Around Sabadell there is a wide range of activities and excursions to do, but today, we would like to focus on an excursion that is definitely in the Top 10 of the region.
La Mola, the highest mountain in the Sant Llorenç de Munt i l’Obac Natural Park
Less than an hour’s drive from the city of Sabadell, we find La Mola, located in Matadepera, is the highest mountain in the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç de Munt and the Serra de l’Obac, with an altitude of 1,104 meters . Thanks to its qualities, La Mola becomes one of the characteristic elements of the landscape of the whole Vallès Occidental region.
Formed by conglomerates, it has a characteristic relief that constitutes a succession of cliffs combined with softer relief strips that correspond to an alternation of layers of sediments with different resistance to erosion. The hard layers erode more slowly and in their retreat can leave testimonies in the form of monoliths such as the “Cavall Bernat” or the “Castellassa de Can Torras”, visible from much of the plain of Valles and known as the Dragon Cave ”where medieval legend places the lair of one of these mythological animals. As in the whole massif, caves and chasms are common (Manel cave, Frare cave, Can Pobla chasm).
At the top of La Mola we find the Romanesque Monastery of Sant Llorenç de Munt, currently converted into a museum-restaurant, which becomes another attraction for the large influx of hikers and families who choose this mountain and its surroundings to spend their heads of the week.
There are many excursions that can be made to the mountain of La Mola. Whether alone, in a group of friends or with family, where adults and children alike enjoy its beauty.
Therefore, if you live in Sabadell or its surroundings and want to spend a great day with family or friends, do not hesitate to take a look at everything that La Mola has to offer, and at home!
